1984 - 2024 40th Anniversary
On Sunday 8 September we celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Manchester United Supporters Club, Sligo Branch, with United & Ireland legend Denis Irwin and the Voice of Old Trafford Alan Keegan as our special guests.
Over 200 attendees were entertained with great stories and memories from Denis' perspective in what was a glorious period in United's history. A buffet dinner was served and a raffle, for items including signed jerseys by United legends, and a seperate raffle for a United jersey signed by the United first team. All proceeds were in aid of the North West Hospice in Sligo, with a total of €3,980 raised.
Branch Trip:
Our 40th anniversay celebrations continued with a Branch Trip to see United beat Leicester City 3-0 on Sunday 10 November. We were delighted to have 36 members travel, where we were invited to take part in a promotional video for United's sponsor, Appolo Tyres.
we all attended aa Warm-up event on the Saturday night, where we had the chance to get a photo with the men's & women's FA Cups, and to meet United legend Brian Kidd.
Prior to the game on Sunday, 20 lucky souls got to go pitchside to meet Captail Marvel himself, Bryan Robson, where he presented the Branch with a framed signed jersey to mark the ocassion.
if that wasn't enough, this was then followed by a pitchside interview with MUTV presenter Zara Connolly, which was aired before kick-off.
Sunday evening was rounded off with the group heading to a bar/restaurant for a well deserved meal.
Huge thank you to everyone who travelled, hopefully we will do it again in the near future.

One step forward, two steps back continued on Sunday when Crystal Palace came to town and left with the spoils.
United started brightly, Mainoo hitting the post, and throughout they dominated possession, corner count and shots off target. Fernandes & Ugarte had efforts on target in the opening minutes of the 2nd half but they were the only efforts on target, in yet another blank day for the front boys.
Palace on the other hand looked dangerous and United were punished by Matete on the double.
Spurs away on Sunday 16 February is next.
Europa League:
A Burno Fernandez stoppage time winner was United beat Rangers 2-1 at home on 23 January.
FCSB away on Thursday is next, for the final group game.
FA Cup:
United got the defence of the FA Cup off to the best possible start winning away at Arsenal on Sunday 12 January.
A drab game kicked into life early in the 2nd half when Burno Fernandes fired United into the lead with a cracking goal. Arsenal levelled on 63mins before a penalty was (incorrectly) given against Maguire. Tempers flared before Bayindir in the United goal saved Odegard's effort. The game finished 1-1, and went to extra time and penalties. Bayindir again saved the day, this time saving from Hervartz and Zirkzee scored United's 5th for a 5-3 win.
Leicester City at home on Friday 7 February in the 4th round is next.
